JOHN A. FLEGLE
September 2, 1944 - June 20, 2017
Age 72

John A. Flegle, 72, of Bowling Green, Ohio, passed away peacefully surrounded by loving family members on June 20, 2017, at St. Vincent Hospital in Toledo, Ohio.

Born September 2, 1944, in Toledo, Ohio, John was the son of the late Alvin Flegle and the late Ruth (Heltebrake) Stransky.

John retired from Norfolk Southern (Conrail) Railroad in 2009 after 33 years of service. He honorably served in the United States Navy.

He was an avid bass fisherman and an accomplished Poker and Euchre player.

John enjoyed spirited conversation with friends and family. For those who knew him well, he'll be remembered for good-natured crankiness, a love of cooking, and an open-minded (if sometimes cantankerous) approach toward the greater world.

Surely he was loved and will be deeply missed.

He is survived by: his five children -- Jeffrey (Toledo), Matthew (San Francisco), Todd (Columbus), Marcy (David) Burnie (Columbus), and Mindy (Bowling Green); nine grandchildren; one great-grandchild; his sister Diane (Dave) Tennant; his brother Donald (Deb) Stransky Jr.; his nephews Eric (Linda) Schwab and Andrew (Katrina) Tennant; his nieces Judith (David) Gettan, Michelle (Joshua) Tennant and Theresa (Scott) Mayfield; and, numerous cousins and friends.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Judy Schwab, and his nephews David Gettan and Joshua Tennant.

There will be a private memorial service in his honor later this year.
