MARION - Joyce Ann Isom (Sibbersen), 74, died at her home in Marion after a long illness on October 19, 2018, with her family at her side.

Joyce Sibberson Isom Joyce was born in Toledo, Ohio in 1944, the oldest of three children of Andrew and Eleanor (Schmidlin) Sibbersen. She graduated from Clay High School and attended classes at Toledo University.

Joyce is survived by her husband of 52 years, Duane. He admits to tripping over a desk the first time he saw her while working together at JC Penney. The couple was married in Toledo and lived briefly in Marion before moving to Petersburg, Michigan, and then Fargo, North Dakota in the early 1980s. The family returned to Marion in 1984, where they remained.

Joyce volunteered many hours at Marion Catholic High School, her children's school, and rarely missed her kids' sporting events. At one point in the 1970s when her son's baseball team was at risk of disbanding due to a lack of coaches, Joyce and her friend volunteered to coach the boys' team at a time when there were few moms coaching boys' sports.

Joyce was a devoted wife and mother, and loving "nana." Left to cherish Joyce's memory are her children: Leslie (Steve) Raabe of Annapolis, Maryland, Julie Isom of Albany, New York, and Andrew (Amy) Isom of Marion; five grandchildren: Martin, Marcus, Emersyn, Oliver, and Ireland, whom she adored; her brother Bruce (Jan) Sibbersen, of Woodville, Ohio and sister and best friend Beth (Jerry) Zohn of Toledo; she also leaves behind beloved nieces, nephews, brothers- and sisters-in-law and friends.

Her greatest joy in life was family and she particularly enjoyed vacations and holidays, as well as playing cards and games. Joyce was a kind, considerate person eager to help her family and friends. She took great joy in gardening and was proud of a first-place May Day basket ribbon she received while visiting Annapolis, Maryland. Presidential history, especially that of the First Ladies, was an interest.

A positive outlook even in trying circumstances, a strong moral character, and an extraordinary work ethic are just a few of the gifts that Joyce passed to her children. When she retired as a manager from Elder-Beerman, she was the longest-tenured employee with 23 years of service.

Born and raised a Lutheran, Joyce worshiped at the Catholic Church as an adult.

Visitation will be Tuesday, October 23, 2018, at St. Mary Catholic Church, 251 North Main St., Marion from 10 AM to 11:30 AM; Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 11:30 AM with Fr. Thomas Buffer officiating; burial will follow at St. Mary's Cemetery.

If so desired, donations may be made to St. Vincent de Paul, 342 N Main St, Marion, Ohio 43302.

The Snyder Funeral Homes of Marion are honored to be serving the Isom family; condolences may be expressed to the family by visiting www.SnyderFuneralHomes.com
